Corpus Christi to focus on neighborhood potholes May 10-24
You can help decide where the city will be filling potholes during its next Pothole Blitz, scheduled to begin Monday, May 10. Report problem potholes to 361-826-2489 (CITY) or download the “My City” mobile app to file a location request.
More than 4,000 potholes in Corpus Christi streets will be filled over a two-week time period, which ends Monday, May 24. So far this year, more than 66,000 potholes have been filled, said Public Works Director Richard Martinez.
“It’s especially good timing (for this blitz) after the rains this weekend,” he told reporters May 3. “There’s going to be a lot more potholes coming up over the next few weeks.”
The Pothole Blitz initiative focuses on residential streets considered pothole hot spots, which are identified by inspection and customer service requests.
Work will be done weather permitting. Drivers are urged to use caution when driving near work zones, which soon will be popping up in neighborhoods.
In an effort to repair more city streets more quickly, the City Council recently approved the purchase of a Bergkamp spray pothole patcher.
“The City Council action will allow our city to repair a record number of potholes,” Mayor Paulette Guajardo said. “Repairing our streets is a top priority in my service as mayor.”
The patcher reduces the amount of time spent repairing a pothole while maintaining a high quality of repair work. However, it won’t be available for the upcoming blitz. It will not be available for street repairs until early 2022.
