Rodeo Corpus Christi could well become the best Large Indoor Rodeo of the Year. The Buccaneer Commission’s April event was one of five rodeos in the nation nominated by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association for the honor.
The PRCA is the largest and oldest rodeo-sanctioning body in the world. It sanctions about 650 multiple-event rodeos in North America each year in 38 states and four Canadian provinces.
Voting PRCA members will cast their ballots in each of 15 categories from Oct. 1-15. The winners will be announced at a banquet in Las Vegas on Dec. 5.
“We are thrilled that Rodeo Corpus Christi has been recognized amongst the industry leaders,” said Johnny Philipello, president and CEO of the Buccaneer Commission. “We must give credit to the 300-plus volunteers, 55 sponsors, and 22,000-plus fans that make our rodeo a success.”
Corpus Christi is competing with indoor rodeos in Denver; Fort Worth; Rapid City, South Dakota; and San Antonio. For a full list of nominees in other categories, visit the PRCA website.
Other categories include Announcer of the Year, Dress Act of the Year, Bullfighter of the Year, and Clown of the Year.
