Basketball coach takes team-building skills to the parks
A Corpus Christi native, teacher, and coach was recently named director of the city's Parks and Recreation. For the past 27 years, Robert Dodd has worked as an educator in Ingleside, Flour Bluff, and Corpus Christi independent school districts. He begins his new job on April 4.
Currently, he is the head boys' basketball coach at W.B. Ray High School. The last game of the regular season was Feb.15.
The Parks and Recreation Department position has been vacant for the last 18 months.
Dodd is a team builder, according to City Manager Peter Zanoni, who appointed him.
“Robert is excited to join our leadership team here at the city and continue to give back to the community by leading and implementing changes and improvements critically needed for our local parks and recreation programs,” Zanoni said. “In all his coaching positions, Robert has been focused on team building, youth leadership, and goal-oriented results. We are confident he will utilize these characteristics in the Parks and Recreation director’s position.”
Dodd holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas-San Antonio. He recently celebrated his 500th career win on Jan. 5, 2022. His father, Bobby Dodd, coached at Ray High School from 1974-87.
