A new restaurant made a splash in Rockport's dining scene over the summer. The Gnarly Marlin waterfront eatery and bar opened its doors over the Fourth of July weekend at Cove Harbor. It offers a wide-ranging bill of fare, including a cook-your-catch option.
It's the newest venture for veteran Austin restaurateur Todd Hynes. He relocated his Lake Travis restaurant, The Gnarly Gar, and modified the name to reflect the coastal surroundings.
Patrons can access The Gnarly Marlin by land via Texas 35 or water via the Intracoastal Waterway. It has a five-year lease for the 4,380-square-foot space situated between Cove Harbor Yacht Club and Boathouse Resort and Cove Harbor Waterfront RV Resort.
The Gnarly Marlin features indoor dining and bar areas accentuated with local art. That and its landscaped waterfront patios mark another phase in the extensive reconstruction of the Cove Harbor complex, which sustained heavy damage from Hurricane Harvey in 2017.
Cove Harbor Yacht Club and Boathouse Resort and Cove Harbor RV Resorts are ventures of Austin-based Legend Communities, a residential and commercial developer that has projects in Texas, California, and Colorado.
