Spring has sprung with warm, sunny days ahead — the perfect time of year to make your garden grow. Give your green thumb a boost by shopping at the Big Bloom Mega Plant Sale at the South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center in Corpus Christi.
The Big Bloom takes place 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, April 7, on one of the garden’s popular Dollar Days, when admission for all is just $1! Visitors can tour the entire Botanical Gardens while they shop. The Big Bloom is a huge event — last year, a record-breaking 6,000 plant fans attended — so get there early.
The Mega Plant Sale has a variety of flora from which to choose: plumerias, orchids, roses, tropicals, exotics, herbs, vegetables, and more. In addition to the plant sale, vendors will set up booths with garden merchandise.
The little ones will have plenty of fun, too. The Big Bloom has a range of kid-friendly events such as Resident Reptile shows, ladybug and butterfly releases, Parrot Talks, nature trail walk-and-talks, Wetland Boardwalk birding scopes, touch-and-learn projects, the Monkey Mansion Tree House, and inflatables.
Come hungry or let all the shopping work up an appetite. A variety of food trucks will be on site for lunch.
Parking is free! Enter the festival through the Rose Pavilion. The Botanical Gardens recommends shoppers bring their own plant carriers.
The South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center is located at 8545 S. Staples St. Call (361) 852-2100 or visit stxbot.org for more information.
