Chris Perez will join five other South Texas musicians or musical organizations of note in having Walk of Fame stars in their honor installed at the WaterStreet Market in downtown Corpus Christi. The Walk of Fame ribbon-cutting ceremonies are at noon Saturday, June 3. Admission is free.
Along with Perez, who was married to Selena and was lead guitarist in her band, Selena y Los Dinos, honorees include the Texas Jazz Festival, Beto y Los Fairlanes, Wanda Gregory, Andrew Moore and Al Dean & the All Stars.
The South Texas Music Walk of Fame was founded in 2004 to pay tribute to the diversity and abundance of music from South Texas artists. Held on the first Saturday in June, the annual ceremony kicks off the WaterStreet Market Music and Art Fest.
Aloe Tile Works, a local, family-owned business, creates the tiles each year. The Walk of Fame is also locally based. It is funded by Brad Lomax and his family, owners of the Water Street restaurants. The organization is operated 100 percent by volunteers.
Later Saturday evening, the Water Street Gallery’s Summer, Surf and Art Celebration at WaterStreet Market kicks off, followed by a weekend of live music.
