For almost two decades, Stump Enterprises has provided high-quality septic tank and grease trap cleaning for the Coastal Bend. The company has a reputation for quality that results in a loyal client base, said Tyler Weldon, current owner and son of the original founder, Marvin Stump, who died in February. Stump started the company in 1999.
“Growing up as a child, I remember how my father worked really hard all the time,” Weldon said. “He was very dedicated. He was busy, gone all the time, started work at 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day. He was very passionate about what he did.”
Through the years, many of Stump’s children worked in the family business. When his dad asked him to help, Weldon was ready with skills in finance, business and technology.
“Since I’ve taken over, I’ve been running the business as he originally left it,” Weldon said. “In fact, many of our clients have been doing business with us for fifteen to sixteen years. We have a very loyal customer following.”
Septic systems and grease traps need regular maintenance to prevent problems such as foul-smelling drains and water leakage into yards, Weldon said. Stump Enterprises offers both residential and commercial services to homeowners, restaurants, businesses and more. The company cleans commercial grease traps and sewer plants and makes emergency call-outs. Other services are drain cleaning, septic system repair and septic tank cleaning.
“We have nine employees ranging from office staff to drivers, helpers and professionals in the field,” Weldon said. “I still answer phone calls every day and talk with the customers. I still dispatch to drivers. We always do things the right way. We show up when we say we’re going to show up.”
Clients include malls, churches, the Corpus Christi Independent School District and many restaurants and local businesses in the Coastal Bend.
Weldon said it has been an honor taking over the legacy left by his father. It is a responsibility that he takes seriously.
“He could have left it to any one of the other children or my brother,” Weldon said. “He could have told us to liquidate the company. He could have sold it. However, I’m just glad he had enough faith in me to know that we would run it half as good as he did.”
