As the sun rises over the Gulf of Mexico on Sunday morning, April 1, Coastal Bend churches will begin Easter celebrations to mark the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Here is a list of several services available this year.

CORPUS CHRISTI SUNRISE SERVICES
The annual Easter Sunrise Passion Play begins at 7:20 a.m. in Cole Park. This is the 76th year the Passion Play has been performed. (See story here)
Solid Rock Church, which has two locations in Corpus Christi, will hold sunrise services at its Ayers Campus, 3035 Ayers St. Service times are set for 6:45 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. A free pancake breakfast is available before all but the sunrise service.
Bring a bell to ring in the “Alleluias” at All Saint’s Episcopal Church’s sunrise Easter service. The service begins at 7:15 a.m. at the church, 3026 S. Staples St. in Corpus Christi. Bells will ring out as the day moves into sunrise.
Island Presbyterian Church at 104030 Fortuna Bay Drive on The Island in Corpus Christi plans a Easter sunrise service on the beach. The service begins at 7 a.m. on the east end of Whitecap Beach. Communion will be offered. Island Presbyterian will also hold an indoor service and communion at 10 a.m. April 1, Easter Sunday.
ROCKPORT EASTER SUNRISE SERVICE
All Rockport churches and the community are involved in holding this sunrise service at the Rockport Beach Park Festival Grounds, a new venue for the annual observance of Easter Sunday. Usually held at the Beach Band Shell, it was moved this year because of damage to the previous venue by Hurricane Harvey.
Charles Schuler will preach during the 30-minute service, which begins just as the sun rises over the Gulf of Mexico. Everyone is invited to this non-denominational service. Bring your lawn chairs!
