UPDATE, DEC. 6, 2021: The JFK Causeway Bridge maintenance project work has begun with barriers, striping, and traffic-control devices in place. Motorists will find one lane open eastbound and one westbound on the bridge through the end of May.

The JFK Causeway Bridge reconstruction project has been delayed. The materials needed to safely set up a new traffic pattern during the construction are not available.
The first phase of the 19-month project called for one lane open in each direction December through May. Concrete barricades were set up in November.
“We are working with the contractor to set an updated schedule, and as soon as it is firmed up, we will send notice,” said Rickey Dailey, District Public Information Officer for the Texas Department of Transportation.
The JFK Causeway project is budgeted at $8.7 million. The construction and lane reduction will only take place on the bridge that spans the intercostal waterway and not the complete causeway. The bridge may also be closed completely for half-hour periods between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
No lanes will be closed during the Beach to Bay Marathon on May 21, 2022.
