Plan back-to-school shopping for Aug. 11-13, when the state is once again waiving sales tax on clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks. Savings will be $8 for every $100 spent.
Some exclusions apply, but the tax-free items included can be purchased either in stories, online or by phone. Shoppers can also use lay-away plants to take advantage of the savings.
Excluded from the sales tax exemptions are items that cost more than $100 each. The total bill can be more than $100, but individual items above $100 will be taxed.
Also not exempted are special clothing or footwear designed for athletic activity or protective use and not normally worn when not participating in an athletic activity. That excludes items such as cleats or football pads. It does not exclude tennis shoes, jogging suits or swimsuits. Those items are also tax-exempt during the tax-free weekend.
