The Texas Jazz Festival is back on the calendar in Corpus Christi. Dates for the 61st annual music festival are Oct. 15-16 at Heritage Park, 1518 N. Chaparral St. in downtown Corpus Christi. The 60th annual festival was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic.
This year’s festival will follow COVID-19 restrictions as outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, organizers announced, but the exact details will not be determined until closer to the fall event.
The announcement was made via the festival’s Facebook page, which declared: “WE ARE BACK!” The website had not caught up to the news as of publication of this story. Plans are still underway, organizers said.
“As a group, we have decided to present the public with a high quality two-day Jazz Festival event,” reads the Facebook post from the Texas Jazz Festival Society and Board of Directors. “Our goals are to continually bring outstanding live music, delicious food, and good times to the Coastal Bend at no cost to the public.”
With more and more festivals making a comeback, some on different dates than usual, a confluence of events was bound to happen. Texas SandFest, normally held in April, is scheduled for the same weekend as the Jazz Festival. Fans of both will have to figure out how to fit these two iconic festivals into their schedules. SandFest 2021, set for Oct. 15-17, does offer an extra day to make things easier.
Admission is free for all ages at the Jazz Festival, which features three stages of music both days.
