Triple-A Astros report to Whataburger Field March 31

Triple-A Astros opens the spring season Wednesday, March 31, at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi. Until May 4, when the Astros’ Double-A team, the Corpus Christi Hooks, opens the Minor League Baseball season, the Astros' top level farm team will prepare for its 2021 season in the Coastal Bend for the second year.
“After our successful run as the Astros’ alternate site host last year, we couldn’t be happier to welcome back the top-notch players and coaches to Whataburger Field before the Hooks' season officially kicks off,” Hooks General Manager Brady Ballard said. “We’re excited to get these players ramped up to play a full season, and hopefully, we’ll see many of them wearing an Astros uniform and contributing to a playoff contender by the end of 2021.”
Major League Baseball opens on April 1. That’s when Triple A players are sent to alternate sites, like Whataburger Field, to stay in shape and be ready to be called to the major league when needed. Players on the major league team’s 26-man roster are sent to Triple-A teams to rehab from injuries. The Hooks' and the Astros' Single-A players will report to The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach until the minor league season opens in May.
In 2020, the Astros’ Triple-A team used Whataburger Field as its alternate site through October as the Hooks had to cancel their season due to COVID-19.
Whataburger Field is located at 734 E. Port Ave. in Corpus Christi. Hooks season memberships are on sale now. Single-game tickets and a promotional schedule will be released at a later date. For more information, call 361-561-4665 or email info@cchooks.com.
