Two of the three Bealls department stores in Corpus Christi will soon become Gordmans, an off-price retailer purchased by Stage Stores Inc. in 2017. The switch is expected to happen in early 2020 for the stores at 4302 Ayers St. and 10241 South Padre Island Drive. The Bealls at 4101 Interstate 69 Access Road in the Five Points Shopping Center will not be converted at this time.
Also converting are the Bealls stores in Rockport, Kingsville, Alice, Aransas Pass, and Portland.
“Shoppers are responding positively to Gordmans off-price concept,” said Blakeley Graham, brand publicity manager for Stage, in an email. “Gordmans has a wide array of popular brand-name merchandise for the entire family at the lowest possible prices compared to department stores.”
Current Bealls employees will be offered jobs at Gordmans. Job fairs will be held at a later date for additional employees.
Parent company Stage Stores Inc. acquired 48 Gordmans stores and a distribution center after the company filed for bankruptcy.
Shoppers will be able to use any of their Stage-brand private label credit cards, Style Circle Rewards, and Stage-brand gift cards at Gordmans.
