Be informed about severe weather, more in Corpus Christi
The city of Corpus Christi has updated its emergency notification system, Reverse Alert, for an improved user experience and is encouraging residents and visitors to sign up.
Text “BEREADYCCTX” to 888777 to be immediately connected. Or, go online and register with a username and password at cctexas.com/alertsignup. Users can indicate specific hours of the day they wish not to be disturbed.
Notifications from Reverse Alert include information on incoming severe weather, traffic alerts, police and fire activity, industry alerts, and citywide information. Alerts are sent via text, phone call, or email.
“We want more people to sign up and receive the advantages of this program,” said Corpus Christi Mayor Paulette Guajardo.
Communication is critical during times of emergency, she stressed.
Only 27,000 of 326,000 Corpus Christi residents are currently registered.
“The goal is to have 150,000 people registered,” said City Manager Peter Zanoni.
Visitors to Corpus Christi can register for the Reverse Alert app on their phone and text STOP to discontinue it after their trip is over.
With above-normal hurricane activity predicted for 2022, advance notification can make a lifesaving difference.
“Part of being prepared is being aware of any severe weather that will affect our community,” said Billy Delgado, Emergency Management coordinator for the city of Corpus Christi.
In addition to the Reverse Alert notification system, residents can check the city of Corpus Christi Facebook page and the mayor’s Facebook page for important information.
“At the end of the day, it’s all about communication,” Guajardo said.
