All new in 2022, the Corpus Christi Downtown Management District will celebrate outstanding downtown businesses in five categories with the Downtown Recognition Awards. Winners will be determined by online voting now open to residents and visitors.
The categories include:

  • Downtowner of the Year — An extraordinary individual who contributed to the growth, vitality, and overall progression of downtown. 
  • Best New Business — One that pioneered true success in establishing a steady and vibrant presence in downtown Corpus Christi. 
  • Best Downtown Event — An event, performance, street activation, or creative programming that contributed to the image of downtown, was a successful economic driver, and created unique opportunities for downtown culture building.
  • Downtown Creative of the Year — A trailblazer who has contributed to the arts and creative culture found throughout downtown. Hospitality Hero of the Year — An individual who provided friendly and generous hospitality above and beyond to maintain an excellent experience for locals and visitors.

The initiative by the Downtown Management District is to acknowledge and appreciate individuals who have contributed to making significant contributions to downtown through their businesses, events, individual creativity, or hospitality. 
“We are so excited to instate this new tradition for our community to celebrate the hard work and achievements of our downtown individuals, businesses, and overall district accomplishments,” said Alyssa Barrera Mason, executive director of the DMD. “Our community works tirelessly and passionately towards making Downtown Corpus Christi a vibrant place to be, so we are honored to present these five awards.” 
Online voting is open through Monday, Jan. 3. Winners will be announced at the annual State of Downtown Event on Thursday, Jan. 20.
