Washed Up Texas displays art from trash at Corpus Christi aquarium
A new eco-friendly art exhibit opens Memorial Day weekend at the Texas State Aquarium. “Planet or Plastic” will be on display until Labor Day, Sept. 5, at the aquarium, 2710 N. Shoreline Blvd. on North Beach in Corpus Christi.
The exhibit features sculptures made from plastic trash washed up on Texas beaches. In fact, the sculptures come from a group called Washed Up Texas, which collects beach trash and turns it into treasured art such as "Terry the Beach Trash Turtle," "Humberto the Blue Heron," and "Dolly the Dolphin."

Washed Up Texas vows to “save Texas beaches one sculpture at a time,” according to display signs on the sculptures, which travel to festivals and art exhibits across the state.
“Our mission is to bring awareness, educate the public, and be part of the solution to the global crisis of plastic pollution in our oceans,” reads the Washed Up Texas mission statement on its website. “Art is the vehicle used to get our message to the public.”
