More than 3,000 personnel from around the country have been called to the Coastal Bend to help AEP Texas restore power in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. By 8 p.m. Sunday, August 27, the 220,000 without power had been reduced to 160,000.
Power should be restored to 95 percent of Corpus Christi and the Sinton area by 10 p.m. Wednesday, according to an AEP Texas report. No estimates have been given yet for Rockport, Port Aransas, Fulton, Woodsboro, Port Lavaca, Lamar or Bayside.
AEP Texas President and COO Judith Talavera asked area residents for their patience as the crews work round the clock, stressing that safety is the utility company’s number priority.
“This was a very devastating and slow moving storm,” she said. “Please stay away from downed power lines. We are working hard to return our communities back to normalcy as soon as possible.”
Currently more than 2,400 reports of downed power lines in Corpus Christi have been called in.
“Please consider downed power lines to be energized and dangerous,” AEP announced through its Facebook page.
Call (866) 223-8508 to report fallen lines or utility poles. To track progress on the restoration effort, visit the AEP website for a real-time map featuring the most current information.
