Glide along the shoreline on a lightweight skimboard.

Skimboarding is a fairly new beach sport requiring some skill, coordination and balance.
Basically, you run along the beach holding the board at your side. Drop it in about an inch of wave water before stepping on it — in stride — and crouching down to keep you balance as you skim along the shoreline.
The secret is to step onto the back of the board first, while placing the other foot on the front of the board without breaking stride.
You don't need big waves for skimboarding, so any beach is a good one for this kid-friendly sport. With some wave action, however, you get a bit more board action. Instead of skipping along the surface, you can practice some skateboard-like tricks.
Boards are shaped like surfboards, but much shorter, usually only about 3 feet long. They also don't have fins underneath like a surfboard. Skimboards cost between $50 and $200 each. They are lightweight and easy to carry.
The sport is not for the fragile of bone or faint of heart. It can result in some hard falls in the sand, so be careful!
