Amateur athletic competition to draw 10,000 athletes to Corpus Christi on July 29-Aug. 1
More than 10,000 athletes are expected to compete in the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation Games of Texas in Corpus Christi from July 29 to Aug. 1. The games are expected to attract more than 20,000 visitors to the city and will require about 500 local volunteers.
Featured sports are baseball, beach volleyball, boxing, disc golf, flag football, golf, pickleball, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field, and water polo.
Highlights include opening ceremonies with a parade of athletes and festivities at The Water’s Edge park downtown.
“The Summer Games of Texas for amateur athletes will be held right here in Corpus Christi this summer!” Mayor Paulette Guajardo announced on Facebook. “Skill levels from amateur, recreational to young Olympic hopefuls will compete in sports featured in various venues across the city.”
Venues hosting competitions include the Corpus Christi Independent School District's Cabaniss Sports Complex and Natatorium, Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation facilities and fields, and Islanders Beach Volleyball Courts at McGee Beach.
