All Tyson Foods Inc. chicken products listed as part of a nationwide recall have been pulled from H-E-B shelves, including those in Corpus Christi. Tyson announced the recall of nearly 8.5 million pounds of chicken after one person reportedly died from eating poultry contaminated with the Listeria monocytogenes bacteria, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service. Two illnesses also were reported.
“We’re committed to providing safe, healthy food that people rely on every day,” said Scott Brooks, senior vice president of Food Safety and Quality Assurance at Tyson Foods. “We are taking this precautionary step out of an abundance of caution and in keeping with our commitment to safety.”
H-E-B pulled all foods in its Meal Simple section that included Tyson chicken as well. Chicken salads were pulled after July 4, including the buffalo chicken salad, pepper trio, barbecue, and shredded chicken salads. The complete list of H-E-B products can be found here
All of the affected chicken products were produced at a plant in Dexter, Missouri, between Dec. 26, 2020, and April 13, 2021. A list of the products can be found on the Tyson website or on the USDA website. No other Tyson products, besides those noted, have been impacted by the bacteria.
Each package of the recalled products carries the code P-7089, found on the product bag or inside the USDA mark of inspection. If you have any of these products in your refrigerator or freezer, you are encouraged to dispose of them or return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund.
